Toronto, Ontario – On behalf of the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, we are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Executive Director, Deepa Mattoo, on being awarded the Humber College Honorary Degree, presented by Applied Arts from the Social Science program at Humber College.

Each year, The Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (hereafter referred to as “Humber” or ”the College) recognizes and honours exceptional individuals who have achieved distinguished status and/or have made significant contributions at the college, municipal, provincial, national, or international level. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the impact and influence these individuals have had in their respective fields.

Deepa Mattoo is an award-winning lawyer and intersectional feminist whose work is rooted in equity, and anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice. As the Executive Director of the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, Deepa provides leadership to the various departments and for the Clinic’s intervention and advocacy work and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, Parliamentary committees and UN civil society meetings on a wide range of social justice and human rights issues.

Her unwavering dedication to social justice, combined with her exceptional leadership, continues to inspire all of us at the Clinic and beyond. We are immensely proud of Deepa’s achievements and are thrilled to see her receive this well-deserved honorary degree from Humber College. Her contributions in her field and her relentless pursuit of justice serve as a powerful example for us all.

Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic is a specialized clinic for women and gender-diverse people experiencing violence, established in the memory of Barbra Teena Schlifer. The Clinic is a multi-disciplinary, frontline service provider that assists more than 16,000 women a year to build lives free from violence through counselling, legal representation, and language interpretation.
